Least Tern Nesting Area

The park's primary purpose is to provide a nesting habitat for the Least Tern, a threatened species of shore bird protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Act.  A shelled area has been created along the seawall to provide nesting sites.  Least Terns arrive in Florida in mid March and nest from late April to mid summer.

Native Flower Bed Area

Beautiful native flowers and shrubs attract bees, butterflies and other insects which serve as a food source for birds.

Sabal Palm Hammock

Native cacti and succulents survive on rainfall alone, no irrigation is necessary.  The sabal palm is Florida's state tree and a source of food and shade for birds.

Youpan Privet Thicket Area

Dense ticket keeps noise from traffic at a minimum and provides privacy for nesting birds.

Coastal Dune Area

Dunes act as a buffer between nesting shore birds and human observers.  Plants in this area prevent erosion and are salt tolerant.

  Maritime Forest Area

Large trees and birdhouses provide food and shelter for native and migrating birds.
