Fire Department News: Remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Make a note to do this twice a year: in the spring on the day we change to Daylight Savings Time, and in the fall when we return to Eastern Standard Time. It is also a good idea to check your smoke detector batteries periodically throughout the year. Smoke detectors save lives, but only if they are in proper working condition. Do not bring your unused or expired prescription drugs to the fire department for disposal. They can be disposed of in the lobby of the Sheriffs’ Department Administration Building at 10750 Ulmerton Road as part of Operation Medicine Cabinet. Hours of operation are 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week. If you are having an emergency of any kind, call 9-1-1. The operator will ask the nature of the emergency, and send the appropriate unit(s) to you. If you need to speak to a deputy from the Sheriff’s Office in a non-emergency situation, such as to request an accident report, call 727/582-6200. Congratulations to: Chief Saltsman celebrating 30 years with the South Pasadena Fire Department, and Emery Culverhouse on his promotion to Lieutenant. Emery has been with the department since 1998. ************************************************************************************************************* Safety Tips: Lightning kills or injures hundreds of people each year. As Floridians, we should be aware that our state has the highest incidence of lightning strikes in the country. Lightning is a spark that can reach five miles in length and contain over 100 million electrical volts. Lightning heads for the best conductor on the ground, not necessarily the tallest object. In some cases, that conductor is a human being. If you are outdoors, take shelter inside the nearest building at the first sign of lightning, and wait at least thirty minutes after the last bolt before you go outdoors again. ************************************************************************************************************* Sheriff’s Department Information: Information regarding Red Light Cameras can be found in a link on the City of South Pasadena website, www.ci.south-pasadena.fl.us. In the unfortunate event your premises have been burglarized, please take the following steps: ●Do not touch anything with your hands. Leave everything just as it is. ●Call the Sheriff’s Department at 727/582-6200 immediately and advise them that a burglary has occurred. ●When the deputy arrives at your residence, supply him with an accurate description of all the property that was taken and fully cooperate with him. ●Call your insurance company to report your loss.
